You are a Work-In-Progress

If I recall properly, I heard of this phrase ‘work in progress’ very recently, when I joined the Big 4 and ventured into the accounting world. It’s just as simple as it reads: something started, not yet complete but undergoing the process of completion.

Everyone undergoing a situation, (usually the not too good situation) is a work in progress. The days of heartbreaks, see them as you discovering the kind of girl not to date, and who doesn’t fit your dream. To a reasonable extent, you would learn a lot on how, and how not to treat your spouse. The waking up 5am or go on fasting programs, you learn how to have dominion over your flesh. Who said life would always be rosy anyway? In the days of down time, these would come handy.

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Ever considered a rough wooden surface with jagged edges and coarse feel. This piece of wood is put under the ‘harsh treatment’ of a sand paper. Consistently rubbing on the coarse surface of the wood, with time, produces a smooth surface which is also different in appearance, and palatable to the eyes. After this, maybe a little polishing is needed, but nonetheless, this is termed ‘fine wood’. Such wood is what we use for the best furniture items.

A lot of circumstances face our already complicated lives, which on d surface, we think, are making things worse. Ever heard of gain with no pain? Relax fella, you are a WIP which would come out refined and polished, tough and hardy. For the greater tomorrow, we need to be able to handle these things, either complex or mundane. Always see things from the bright side of life, and know it’s for a greater good.

Experience is not what happens to you; it’s what you do with what happens to you.

I feel for folks who have always been ‘caged’ and over protected by their parents, even at teenage years. The key to wisdom lies beyond the things you are told. A lot depends on what you have gone out to discover.

The point here is this: expose yourself to as much learning points as you can; and for the unprecedented occurrences, fathom a way out and hold fast to what you experience. You know why? Because you have either learnt how to, or how not to, what would work, or what won’t work.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest..
