Truth be told, we were not sent to college or graduate school to learn about school work only. A great chunk of this opportunity is to tap into the vast diversity of cultures and individuals. Interactions with others open your eyes and minds. You associates and contacts keep you abreast of developments, they are your key to the world.

The richest people in the world look for and build networks. Others look for work.

Have you wondered how many contacts away you are from a notable personality? Networking experts have researched that for an average individual, you are just 4 contacts away from whoever you want to meet. On a real life basis, if I want to meet the US president, I just need to tell my buddy Dayo Israel (contact 1), who has ministers and governors (contact 2) in his circle. This category has the ambassador to US or the president in their circle (contact 3). Every president has fellow presidents in his/her circle. Since he has dined with the Queen of England before, she’s just a contact away for me. In essence, if you have something very urgent, or paramount, or of great economic/health importance, a little desperation, and you are with your desired contact.

You have to be visible to the community. You need to get out there and connect with people. It’s not called net-sitting or net-eating. Its NETWORKING: you have to work at it.

Many of us have limited our networking skills to the social fun of it. You have the Sultan of Brunei’s son following you and all you do is tweet and like his photos, failing to realize that he is personally worth billions of dollars, and making him listen to a great proposal is your key to financial prowess.

Network continually. 85% of jobs are filled through contacts and personal references.

Engage your twitter, facebook, instagram followers. Seek to develop solid relationships, and build positive reputation among your contacts. Strive to meet people, even if they have little to offer you at the moment. Take your eyes off the vain aspect, create and leave a lasting impression. The days are competitive, you need to carve a niche and path for yourself.

Networking is an enrichment program, not an entitlement program.

Remember, thousands of likes and followers on social media don’t pay bills. It doesn’t mean your burial would be well attended. However, those followers can help you build an empire and do beyond your imaginations. EXPAND YOUR WORLD.
